Girls take the honours as Junior Squash Competition resumes in Norfolk.
The Norfolk Junior Squash Grand Prix Series returned to Broadland Sports Club on Sunday 12th September, with the girls stealing the honours, but everybody was just being happy to be back playing again, or finding their feet in their first ever Tournament matches.
At least 11 of the 20 juniors were playing for the first time, and included players from North Walsham, Harleston, Lowestoft, Norwich, and the hosting Club at Fleggburgh, Great Yarmouth. Although only 6 of the 20 players were girls, they still managed to take first place in all 3 groups to show that squash is a game that girls can compete on equal footing with the boys.
The Final round of matches produced many competitive and close matches, bringing lots of applause from the watching spectators.
Closest matches include;
Jack Harrow’s 11/9,13/15,11/6 win over Henry Smith,
William Lloyd’s 11/7,17/15 win over Cameron Sumner,
Darcy Barker’s 11/8,10/12,11/8 win over her sister Betsy,
Connor Jeary’s 12/10,10/12,11/8 win over Amelie McIntosh,
and the Group 2A/2B decider between friends Codie Jeary and Elise Ball, with Codie taking this match 4/11,11/8,11/6.
All matches were played in great spirit with many of the players stepping confidently forward without hesitation to mark their competitors matches.
Final positions were as follows:-
Group 1.
Groups 2A/2B.
A big thank you to Tony Henden and his team for providing an excellent venue for the event as well as running the event on the day.
See you all at the next one soon!
