David Youngs
Name: David
Youngs
Born: 1967
Birthplace: Spixworth, Norwich
Height: 5ft 11”
Club: East Anglia Tennis & Squash Club.
County Caps and age groups represented: 76 County caps between the age of sixteen and thirty five with men’s first team and 32 caps with men’s over 35 team.
England Caps and age groups represented: 9 England caps with men’s over 40 team.
How many times play a week: On court most days as coach for a living.
How many times train per week: Don’t really train as normally busy working.
Best player played against: Jansher Khan, Ross Norman and James Willstrop as well as former world junior champion Del Harris who I still lead 1-0 in head to head matches (he got injured and had to concede!!). Hardest opponent locally would have to be Jamie Goodrich although Ian Cox can be tricky if he’s having a good day.
Favouite shot: Would have to be the Lob probably because everyone hates it.
Racket: Tecnifibre
Coach: Started with Stuart Smith before moving on to Steve Rudd.
Further Information/ top results: Top results would have to include representing my Country at Number one and winning all 3 matches in 2010.
Most memorable victory was winning my first County title in 2001.
Worst defeat was losing to Richard Millman in 1985 when 8-0 up in the fifth game and all set to win the Norfolk League for Dereham only to lose the game 10-9 and hand the title to Hunters by one point (often reminded about this by Colin Harris our captain at the time).
