_First round Playoff Matches – the week of the 5th of March onwards

Second Playoff Matches (finals week) – the week of the 12th of March onwards

As the end of Winter League season approaches, please find below the playoff rules for clarification for all the matches to be played. These are designed to be fair to all clubs so no ringers can be drafted in to strengthen teams as stated at the beginning of the season.

                                                          ·         For all leagues of 7 teams (Super League and Division 1) - Players who play in the playoff matches have to have played for that team a minimum of 4 times during the League season up until the last match.

                                                          ·         For leagues of 6 teams (Division 2, 3 and 4) - The minimum amount a player has to have played is 3 times as there are less matches through the season.

                                                          ·         If there is any doubt over the players who have played and the amount they have played, the decision will be made by the Norfolk Squash committee after looking back at the seasons records/ matches.

                                                          ·         All league matches have to be played and completed before the week of the 5th of March (some exclusions allowed).

                                                          ·         Playoff places – the team finishing higher in the league has the Home advantage –e.g. 2nd will be at home and 3rd will visit the 2nd placed team. The same goes for 5th and 6th positions - The chosen night is also favourable to the home team but if it cannot be made a 2nd alternative date must be arranged to which the away team must accept. Failure to do so will forfeit the match.

                                                          To clarify the Playoff rules.

If teams are positions 2nd and 3rd in each division - The winner goes through to the next playoff week to play the loser from the division above (finals week - 12th March onwards). The loser is out and will not get another chance to be promoted or win the title in the Super League. Their season is effectively over.

If teams are positions 5th and 6th (or 4th and 5th for Divisions of 6 teams only) – The winner will survive the seasons relegation and will have no more matches to play – their season is effectively over. The loser however then goes into the playoff finals week the week after to play the winner of the above (2nd vs 3rd winner).

Second Round Playoffs (Finals Night!) – The loser of 5th and 6th (or 4th and 5th for Divisions of 6 teams only) will then play the winner of the Division below (2nd or 3rd) with the team in the Division above having Home advantage. This will decide who stays up and who goes down. Normal league match rules apply, the team who wins plays in the Division above, the loser the Division below. The night is also favourable to the home team but if it cannot happen a 2nd alternative date must be arranged.

The Final for the Super League (Grand Final) - the 1st placed team in the Super league has Home advantage - the night is also favourable to the home team but if it cannot happen a 2nd alternative date must be arranged and must be accepted.

For example. If it finished below:

                                                          Super League
                                                          5th – Broadlands
                                                          6th – Potters

                                                          Division 1
                                                          2nd – EATSC 3rds
                                                          3rd – North Norfolk

Broadland vs Potters – First round Playoff match - Broadland at home and chose night(s). The winner survives season. Loser plays winner of Division below. Eg. If Broadland win (see below)

EATSC 3rds vs Norfolk Norfolk – First round Playoff match  - EATSC at home and chose night(s). The winner plays loser of Division above. The losers season effectively over. E.g if Norfolk Win (see below)

Broadland vs North Norfolk (Finals week) - Broadland at home and chose night(s) as in Division above. The winner plays in the Super League the next season. The loser plays in Division 1.

We hope this clarifies everything, it is promising to be an extremely exciting finish to the season in every Division and the best for a long time.

Having played throughout the 1980s and 1990s without ever winning a summer league title East Anglia’s strength in depth has been rewarded since the millennium and they have now added the 2011 Premier League Title to their successes in 2001, 2006 and 2009.

East Anglia went into their final match without David Youngs who is in plaster after tearing tendons in his arm and Liam Nolan who was suffering with an ankle injury but they were still able to put out a strong line up. Gareth Joubert won the opening fourth string match against Andy Wright 3-2 and Ashley Briggs had a comfortable straight game victory over Liam Baines at No.3. Both teams then got the points they were looking for when John Cordeaux beat Richard Hunt 3-1 in  the second string match which was closer than the score might suggest and then in the final match of the evening and also the summer Potters’ Dave Gouldby beat Tim Allenden, who was making a welcome return after injury, 3-1.

Barnham Broom II clinched the Division One title by winning 14-8 at North Norfolk. Devendra Mahatme did beat Pete Blackmore 3-1 but Adam Goodson won 3-1 against Tim Perry while Adie Martin came from 0-2 down to beat Kevin Blake 7-9 2-9 9-0 9-0 9-5 and Luke Plumridge did the same as he beat Martin Guppy 2-9 4-9 9-1 9-4 9-7 in the first string match.

Wensum Lodge have taken the Division Two title despite losing their last match 12-7 to Fakenham. Marco Valori and Steve Cunningham both won their matches 3-1 but for Fakenham young Martin Jolley had an excellent 3-1 victory over veteran Graham Woodford while Adam Sinkins won the first string match against Ian Pearson in straight games

A big congratulations go to the divisional winners - East Anglia, Barnham Broom II and Wensum Lodge, a big "thank-you" to Tim for running the leagues for us and to our Sponsors for the whole of the Summer Season - ANACO Air Conditioning from Norwich, we really do appreciate all the support that you give us!

It works by dividing players up into Groups of their rough ability, where they then play either a cup or round robin format depending on the amount of entrants in their range. So it therefore caters for all standards – from the top Norfolk Players, the up and coming youngsters, the club and league player, women and ladies team players and even other counties and players if they wish! Picture
The time has come to now announce details of the rumour of the extremely popular Norfolk Squash Juniors Grand Prix being copied to the Norfolk Squash men’s circuit.

Well, we have been working on this for a while and are now pleased to announce the new "NSRA Grand Prix Super Series 2011"!!

The Grand Prix super series is (as of today) now open to all Norfolk Squash players of all levels and abilities (from the top England players right down to the very beginners, juniors and ladies) as a way to test themselves on a regular monthly basis to determine the overall Norfolk ranking.

                                                          1st Series of 5 - April 24th 2011 - Entry Deadline 22nd April (Entry Form below)

2 Venues - Broadland Sport Centre and Rossis Leisure - Depending on amount of entrants

The idea for the Grand Prix is to familiarise Norfolk players with more competitions so that other competitions on a regional and National level become a lot more familiar for players who would like to progress. Currently there is only 1 Competition per year, the Norfolk County Closed. By having 5 highly competitive, very fun, fast paced and quality events, this will increase players standards as well as introduce them to a system where they can see where exactly they are in the Norfolk Squash rankings and pecking order and then know where to improve and what they have to do.

So moving on to the details!

                                                          • The Grand Prix Super Series will run over the Summer months to co-incide with this years new Summer leagues, over a course of 5 months with 1 tournament each month lasting 1 day on a weekend - starting from April and running until August 2011.
                                                          • The series will be held over 5 different zones around the county - North (TBA), East (Broadlands), South (TBA), West (TBA) and Central (TBA) to promote equal opportunities for everyone around the County.
                                                          • Each player will also represent their designated zone by the club they play for (this is just to help us gauge where to develop the lesser areas of Squash too and for future plans).
                                                          • Entrants will need to attend at least 2 events out of the 5 to determine their Norfolk Ranking.
THE RULES - How it works??

Tony Henden (Organiser of the extremely popular Junior Grand Prix) explains how it works. The NSRA Grand Prix ranking system is designed to help players monitor their progress, to reward their achievements and also to assist organisers with seeding players for the tournaments and coaches in the selection of Norfolk county squads.

Each player's participation in a grand prix is awarded percentage ranking points depending on their final finishing position in the individual tournament. These are spread equally from 100 to the person finishing first in the top group, down to between 2 - 3 points for the person finishing last in the bottom group.

In addition any person winning a group (other than group 1), will be awarded the finishing position of the person finishing last in the group above them, and vice versa. This gives one position bonus points to each player winning a group.

After each Grand Prix, every player's percentage points are averaged out to give their new Grand Prix Points figure.

To encourage and reward participation, any player missing a Grand Prix will be deducted one percentage point from their points' total.

To qualify for a valid ranking position, a player must play in a minimum of one in the first three Grand Prix, and a minimum of two over the five month season. Anyone falling below this appearance level will continue to be shown on the Rankings, but with an invalid attendance.

At the end of the season, awards will be presented in various categories including: overall winners, most group wins and participation awards.

The rankings will be shown on the Grand Prix page of the Norfolk Squash website and will be updated after each Grand Prix. They also show each player's finishing position for every Grand Prix, club, group wins and number of tournaments entered.

                                                          Summary

To kick it off, the Entry Form is available to download from today (below) which can be sent in with the appropriate payment.
