NORFOLK SQUASH LEAGUE
Premier division

The Norfolk Squash Premier League kicked off with renewed energy as the first matches of the season delivered thrilling action and standout performances. Players hit the courts determined to set the tone for the season.

Diss Heywood 1 vs East Anglia 1
28 October 2024

The Premier Division clash between Diss Heywood 1 and East Anglia 1 delivered an evening of thrilling squash, with Diss Heywood emerging victorious with a 12-6 win. Here's how the matches unfolded:

1. Ian Cox vs. Tim Dixon (0-3)
The evening opened with Ian Cox taking on Tim Dixon. Despite a valiant effort, Cox bludgeoning drives couldn’t overcome Dixon’s precision and control. Dixon claimed the match in straight games, edging the first with a tight 12/10 and maintaining his dominance to close out 7/11, 7/11.

2. Tom Hunt vs. Herman Van D Berg (3-0)
Tom Hunt delivered a stellar performance for Diss Heywood producing a powerful and uncompromising display, securing a crucial win against, in contrast, a steady Herman Van D Berg. The match was a test of endurance and mental fortitude, with Hunt holding his nerve in three close games (12/10, 11/9, 11/9).

3. Tom Bobbins vs. Matt Johnson (3-0)
Tom Bobbins was in commanding form against Matt Johnson. His dominance was evident from the outset, as he took control of the match with a combination of athletic movement and reliable ball placement. Bobbins eased to victory in straight games (11/4, 11/6, 11/5).

4. Tom Ison vs. Sam Perry (2-3)
The most dramatic match of the night came between Tom Ison and Sam Perry. In a five-game thriller, Ison battled back showing strong physical presence after dropping the first game but narrowly lost the decider 9/11. Perry’s slightly unorthodox but effective play combined with superb resilience and composure under pressure secured the win (6/11, 11/3, 11/8, 6/11, 9/11).

Final Score: Diss Heywood 12 - 6 East Anglia.

Broadland 1 vs Bannatynes 1

04 November 2024

The Broadland 1 team hosted Bannatynes 1 in an exciting Norfolk Squash League fixture, resulting in a dominant 16-1 victory for the home side.

1. William Henden (Broadland 1) vs. David Gouldby (Bannatynes 1)
William Henden secured a straight-sets victory over David Gouldby in a tightly contested match. The games were neck-and-neck, with Gouldby finding inspiration from his early attacking form to cause Henden to rethink his tactics. Henden held his nerve and quality (but maybe not his strategy) to take the win 3-0 (16/14, 14/12, 12/10).

2. Samuel Henden (Broadland 1) vs. Kevin Harvey (Bannatynes 1)
Samuel Henden showcased an outstanding performance, dominating Kevin Harvey in three swift games. His powerful play earned a convincing 3-0 victory with Harvey unable to sustain his forceful attacks (11/2, 11/6, 11/7).

3. Matthew Hawkes (Broadland 1) vs. Mark Thomas (Bannatynes 1)
Matthew Hawkes had a rocky start, dropping the first game to Mark Thomas. However, Thomas seemed to lose some early form and allowed Hawkes to recover brilliantly, taking the next three games with confidence to seal a 3-1 victory (9/11, 11/4, 12/10, 11/6).

4. Walkover
Broadland 1 was awarded a walkover in the final match, contributing an additional 3-0 to the overall score.

Final Score: Broadland 16 - 1 Bannatyne
